The Employment Relations Tribunal has ordered Lion One Metal to act within the Employment Relations Act 2007 and allow union activities on its premises.

The National Workers of Union (NUW) had gone to court to seek orders in relation to its members at Lion One Metal.

“The Employer allows the Union access to the workplace to conduct Union business without interference from the Employer pursuant to section 145 of the Employment Relations Act 2007,”’ said Legal Tribunal Aleem Shah in the ruling on December 9.

“The Employer respects the rights of workers to join the Union and the Employer to deduct from the salaries of the workers, who have provided written consent, the amount due as contributions to NU W, and to remit the deducted amounts to NUW within 14 days.”

The Tribunal ordered Lion One Metal to pay a sum of S 1000 to NUW in costs.
