FTUC reaffirms its support to Myanmar workers and unions

  • February 17, 2021

We support the call made by ITUC and ITUC-AP to denounce the coup in Myanmar.  The  actions taken by the military government is not at acceptable. Democracy has been stolen by this actions of government and the detention and terrorizing of citizens is very extreme form of harassment and torture. We deplore all actions that have unraveled decades of struggles to restore democracy in Myanmar.

ITUC-AP calls for release of Aung San Suu Kyi and restoration of Myanmar’s democracy

2 February 2021

The ITUC-AP expresses deep concern over the detention of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi along with other political leaders as well as the declaration of transfer of all legislative, executive and judicial powers to the military under a one-year state of emergency.

Shoya Yoshida, the ITUC-AP General Secretary, said: “This is an outrage against democracy, voiding the NLD’s landslide November election victory in a setback for the country’s nascent transition to democracy. We call on the military leaders to respect the rule of law and human rights and to immediately release all the unlawfully detained and observe the will of the people of Myanmar as expressed in November elections. The ITUC-AP stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar and their trade union movement to defend and restore democracy in the country.”

We stand in support of our Myanmar colleagues in CTUM and MICS.
